. they have a good thing going politically with everybody talking about obama care and the problems with the rollout of healthcare.gov and they are afraid of distracting from that. whether they can go and convince 100 some or nearly 200 republican members of the house that it is a good idea and convince the heritage foundation and other conservative pressure groupz to go along with that deal, it's going to be difficult. we'll see whether they succeed. >> one of my favorite parts of covering politics. trying to figure out what will heritage accept and the whole country can wait and see. >> right? >> little heritage christmas present. >> they don't actually get their way. it's a question of how much trouble they have to make before republicans realize -- >> make it their way a lot. >> they got the shutdown they wanted for christmas. >> but didn't get obama care defunded. >> it's a fantasy. >> thanks for keeping it real with us today. >> up next, we have another story developing this afternoon, the 911 tapes from the sandy hook shooting have been released but there's a lot of controver

the website is going really well. i know the new york times and "washington post" talked about that a lot. if you go to kentucky, what you hear is that mitch mcconnell is still loud and proud saying we should repeal obama care. and the democratic candidate there running and her name is allison grimes. so far even though kentucky has a good website, she is still very weary of this law. her view is still obama care not going to help you win in kentucky. on the other hand in florida, you have charlie crist, now a democrat, running for governor there. he made one of his big issues the medicate expansion which is popular. florida has not allowed the medicaid expansion. and he thinks it's a winning issue with the democrats in florida. >> the website is working better but still underlying issues only just beginning to make head way like identity verification and enkolment data which is leaving some insurers and states like connecticut really uncomfortable and now looking for ways around the federal system, ways to enroll customers directly. this is how the new york times put it. some insurers ha

and sports and more sports. luke is here and not talking about the bills but he is talking about the bill for america's favorite past time and who's picking up the tab. you've scored a front row seat with "the cycle." >> president obama is heading to south africa for nelson mandela's memorial service. when he returns, expect him to refocus on what he says is his administration's target for the remainder of his presidency. a tale of two americas, candidate obama vowed to heal a polarized nation but that is proving increasingly difficult. his first term ended by tieing jouj l george w. bush as the most polarizing year ever. look how far the lines really are. it's no surprise since over the past decade the nation's seen a rise in liberal democrats and conservative republicans, it's which way politics to the fringe or center. we search far and wide to find someone who knows politics and elected as a republican governor and served four presidents including one democrat named obama. and the only name we could come up with is huntsman. yes, that's my dad jon. welcome to "the cycle." we've banish

's not obama care, it's the affordable care act. what the president was saying, it's obama care. when he was really doing, i agree with you, talking mostly to democrats today, i think. he was saying if you want this not to be a political liability, then you have to go out and help me sell this and help me make it work. almost like launching another political campaign here where he's saying to organizing for america or liberal and progressive groupz and any supporters of the law or democratic elected officials all across the country, get people signed up. especially younger and healthier people so that this will work. he said, there's no going back. it's not going to be repealed not as long as i'm president. let's sell it and make it work. he was basically speaking to the troops today about what sales points they should make. >> you mentioned those troops and organizing for america, as you know, this was one of the most innovative campaigns ever, gathering 16 million on a network. and yet that part of the network has not been as effective at this stage of governing and selling. politico i

. but getting back to president obama, it's almost a full year, jon, into his re-election and you've been talking about how difficult his presidency has been, specifically over the past year. if you compare it to recent presidents before him, their approval rating at this very same time, president clinton and reagan both doing far better than president obama at this time. george w. bush was slightly lower at 37%. but this is the same president who it seemed could do no wrong when he was re-elected. ari often reminds me that in politics things can move very slow and they can also move very fast. >> only ari knows that? oh. >> and former white house adviser spoke to this on this week last week wanting it to move quickly. let's take a listen. >> people trust this president. i think there's been numbers all over the place. i'm confident in a few months from now those trust numbers are going to come up. i think his approval number will come up. >> that's obviously what every democrat wants. jon, it seems like this is a year the administration is wanting to put behind them very quickly. >> yeah
